The Jets’ injury to veteran pass rusher Leonard Williams has raised serious questions about the team’s depth and ability to compete in the AFC.
The pass rush is a position in football where the player attempts to sack the opposing team’s quarterback. If the defensive player succeeds, they force the opposing team to stop their offense and give up possession of the ball.

After the slew of injuries the club has had in recent years, this has been a nice surprise.
The injury bug did, however, take a nice chunk out of the Gang Green defense, which will have many ramifications going into the season.

Last Monday, Jets head coach Robert Saleh said that veteran pass rusher Vinny Curry will be out until Week 2 of the NFL regular season.
The extent of his injuries was not revealed.
Curry agreed to a one-year agreement for $1.2 million (90 percent of his contract is fully guaranteed). The 33-year-old sack specialist is in his tenth season in the league and was expected to contend for the starting EDGE rusher spot opposite Carl Lawson.
To begin the year, the veteran could be put on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list. Curry would be suspended for the first six weeks of the 2023 NFL regular season if this occurs.
He may be removed off the PUP list prior to the start of the season without penalty if he continues to recover and rehab well.
Injuries provide a window of opportunity.

Football is a very rough and violent sport. Injuries are unavoidable. When these unavoidable occurrences occur, it provides an opportunity for someone else on the roster to step up to the plate.
On the one hand, you never want to see injuries, but on the other hand, the other defensive linemen in the room now have a golden ticket to go up the pecking order.
The youthful players are the first to spring to mind:
Huff and JFM are the front-runners for more playing time right away.
Last year, as an undrafted free agent, the former Memphis product joined the team and provided a valuable rotating component to the defense. Huff only appeared in 14 games and had two sacks, but he was a constant source of chaos.
He’ll be able to move from being a rotating guy to becoming THE big man on campus now. As a defensive lineman, JFM could move inside and pressure the quarterback. He’ll pin his ears back and make some noise no matter where he’s ordered to line up.
Franklin-Myers, like Lawson, is another person who benefits from sophisticated analytics. He’s on the verge of breaking through, and additional chances might be the missing link.
Two additional players are at the bottom of the totem pole, with considerably lesser expectations. Rashed Jr. is an undrafted free agent, while Zuniga is a former third-round pick who failed to get playing time last season.
A 4-3 system, which was implemented this summer, is a good fit for talented defensive linemen who can go upfield. As we go through training camp, any player might be a pleasant surprise.

The smart veteran previously of the San Francisco 49ers is maybe the most underappreciated member of this defensive line bunch. Blair is well-versed in the system and has the necessary tools to make his influence felt. When we go to padded sessions and preseason games, keep a careful watch on him.
